British F1 driver Lewis Hamilton apologised to his Mercedes teammate George Russell for his role in their crash at the Qatar GP 2023 in Lusail. Despite the incident, Russell held his own to finish fourth as Max Verstappen of Red Bull added another win to his victorious 2023 F1 campaign. At the same time, the McLaren duo Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris clinched the second and third spots.

Coming back to the race, Hamilton attempted an overtake over Russell at turn one on the opening lap at the Lusail Circuit. But as the seven-time champ turned in on his teammate, Russell had no place to go with Max Verstappen alongside him. Here, Hamilton clipped Russell and crashed out of the race as he lost his right rear wheel.

After the race, Lewis Hamilton sent out a tweet issuing an apology to George Russell and shared that he takes full responsibility for the incident. “I’ve watched the replay and it was 100% my fault and I take full responsibility,” he wrote on X. “Apologies to my team and to George.” Hamilton also gave a face-to-face apology to his teammate after the race.
Sharing thoughts about his relationship with Russell incident, Hamilton said, “The relationship is not broken. I don’t have any problems with George. We have a great relationship and we always talk about things. This is just unfortunate and I am sure he was frustrated in the moment, as I was, but we will talk about it offline and move forward.”
