After a disappointing pre-season, Inter Miami began the MLS 2024 campaign on a dominant note as Lionel Messi-led side are unbeaten after three games in the league and recently defeated Orlando City at the Chase Stadium. During Saturday's game in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Messi ran riot with a six-minute brace, however, the record eight-time Ballon d'Or winner's one unintentional action left a toddler in tears.
Lionel Messi and his former Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez helped Inter Miami continue their unbeaten run and thrash the second-placed side in the Eastern Conference last season. While Suarez scored a brace and registered two assists, Messi scored a second-half brace as he found the back of the net in the 57th and 62nd minutes.
While The Herons were already leading the game with a 5-goal margin, they were awarded a free-kick and the Argentine captain stepped up to increase the lead even further. Although the ball was inches away from the post, Messi's wayward freekick appeared to hit a toddler in the stands, which left her in tears.
