Lionel Messi-led Inter Miami thumped New York Red Bulls in a nail-biting thriller of Major League Soccer on August 27, Sunday. Apart from leading his side to a resounding victory against the Bulls, the Argentina international scored his first goal in his MLS debut. With a stunning 89th minute goal, the FIFA World Cup 2022 winner led his side to a 2-0 victory against their rivals.
Messi made his MLS debut in the 60th minute of the game, after he replaced Leonardo Campana. After Diego Gomez opened the account for his side in the 37th minute of the game, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner scored another in the 89th minute, to extend the score tally to 2-0.

This was Leo Messi’s 11th goal for Inter Miami, after having made debut for his new side in July 2023. Before Messi got victory for his side, Miami was oscillating on 0-8-3 in their previous 11 MLS matches.
However, his debut goal wasn’t the only factor Messi was in talks for. The Leagues Cup 2023 winning captain didn’t speak to the reporters after his debut, which is a violation of league’s media rules. According to reports by Associated Press, Miami's spokeswoman Molly Dreska said that Messi was not made available to the reporters.
