Tom Lockyer, the captain of Luton, was taken to the hospital after he collapsed at Wembley during the early stages of the Championship playoff final on May 27. The Hatters regrouped once their leader was stretched off the field and galvanised themselves to a 6-5 victory on penalties, after a 1-1 scoreline at the end of extra-time, against Coventry to achieve Premier League promotion.

Shortly afterward, a picture of Tom Lockyer surfaced on the internet in which he was seen celebrating the biggest triumph for Luton in nearly 30 years.

It was in the 12th minute of the Championship playoff final, when the 28-year-old center-back, who was running backward towards his own goal, suddenly fell to the ground in a heap and couldn’t get up on his feet. Moments later, the medical staff at Wembley rushed onto the scene and took a conscious Lockyer off the field on a stretcher with an oxygen mask on.
