On Friday, July 5, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, felicitated the captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, for leading the side to a T20 World Cup triumph last month. At his official residence in Mumbai, known as the Varsha Bungalow, the 60-year-old also honoured the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Yashavi Jaiswal.
Notably, Rohit Sharma and his Indian teammates arrived in Mumbai with the T20 World Cup trophy after meeting the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, in New Delhi, following their return to the country yesterday morning. The Indian cricket team went on an open bus victory parade at the Marine Drive in Mumbai before making their way to the Wankhede Stadium, where they were honoured by the BCCI in front of thousands of fans.
Just a day later, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal were felicitated by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde. The esteemed government official lauded Suryakumar Yadav for his match-defining catch in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa, which India won by seven runs, at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
The four cricketers are slated to get felicitated at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan Complex later today, according to the report from The Week.
Moreover, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the T20I format in the aftermath of the T20 World Cup triumph in the Caribbean. In the upcoming five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club, he is going to be replaced in the captaincy role by Shubman Gill.
