Star shooter and a double Olympic medallist, Manu Bhaker received a grand welcome as she returned to India after a successful campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024. Bhaker arrived in Delhi on Wednesday, August 7, where she received a warm reception by family and fans. As Bhaker landed at the New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, media, airport staff and fans got eager to get a glimpse of India’s newest sporting sensation.
Notably, at Paris Olympics 2024, Bhaker created history by becoming first Indian in the post-Independence era to win two medals in one edition of the Summer Games. At the Delhi Airport, Bhaker’s parents, Ram Kishan and Sumedha were among the crowd, who were there to welcome their daughter after a historic campaign.
Notably, the 22-year-old pistol shooter won bronze medals in the women’s 10m air pistol and the 10m air pistol mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh. With this, Bhaker entered the elite club of India’s double Olympic medallists, joining the likes of PV Sindhu, Sushil Kumar and Norman Pritchard. It is to be noted that Manu had opportunity to win another medal at the Paris Olympics in her pet event, women’s 25m air pistol. However, Bhaker finished the final at fourth spot and failed to achieve the historic feat.
Meanwhile, Manu has been named as India’s flag bearer at Paris Olympics 2024 and her visit to India is brief. She will return to France for the closing ceremony of the quadrennial event which is scheduled to be held on August 11.
