After Chennai registered a comfortable five-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024, MS Dhoni and rest of the players received medals from the team management at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The victory in the last group stage game at home for Chennai Super Kings, put them firmly back in contention to reach the IPL playoffs.
For the unversed, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson, decided to bat first after winning the toss, but the openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal struggled to accelerate right throughout the powerplay. Simarjeet Singh picked up the wickets of the RR openers and Sanju Samson's wicket before Riyan Parag made 47 off 35, to help propel their total to 141/5 in their allotted overs.
The run chase from Chennai Super Kings saw Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell score quick-fire 20s, providing them with a fast start. The captain Ruturaj Gaikwad batted throughout the innings, at just about a run-a-ball, to ensure that CSK got across the line with 10 balls to spare after Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin put some pressure on them in the middle overs.
Following the post-match presentation, the Chennai Super Kings management awarded all their players with a medal, to appreciate them for their efforts throughout the IPL 2024 season. MS Dhoni also clicked pictures with the ground staff at the MA Chidambaram Stadium following their last game at home in the group stage.
Notably, Chennai Super Kings will be playing their last game of the group stage against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. It has the makings of winner takes all if RCB manage to defeat DC in the upcoming IPL 2024 match.
