August 23, 2023, will be a red letter day in India’s history as the Indian Space Research Organisation’s Chandrayaan-3 landed on the moon. Like the entire country, former Indian captain and cricketing great MS Dhoni was celebrating this monumental achievement. In a viral video, Dhoni applauds as Chandrayan-3 completes its soft landing on the South Pole of the Moon.

Earlier that day, another video of Dhoni’s daughter  Ziva also made the rounds of social media, where she hailed this historical achievement with her mother, Sakshi Dhoni. The eight-year-old exclaimed, “Bravo! Bravo!” as Chandrayan-3 ascended to the moon’s surface. With Chandrayaan-3’s successful mission, India joins the ranks of the USA, Russia and China as the fourth country to land on the moon.

After Chandrayaan-3’s soft landing, Vikram, the lander module also completed a successful landing on the surface of the moon and made way for the rover in its belly, Pragyan. The officials at the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) at ISRO Telemetry, Tracking, and Command Network (ISTRAC) rolled out the rover, which will start the situ chemical analysis of the lunar surface during the course of its mobility.


President of India - resident Droupadi Mumru on Thursday expressed her excitement towards the findings of the Chandrayan-3 and praised the efforts of the ISRO team. Taking to Twitter, the Indian President shared, “I once again congratulate the ISRO team and all fellow citizens for successful deployment of Pragyan-rover from inside Vikram-lander. Its rolling out a few hours after the landing of Vikram marked the success of yet another stage of Chandrayaan 3. I look forward with excitement, alongside my fellow citizens and scientists to the information and analyses that Pragyan will acquire and enrich our understanding of the moon.”
