The IPL 2024 auction made headlines across the globe as the Australian duo of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins made history with their most expensive bids. While the Kolkata Knight Riders signed Starc for a record ₹24.75 crore, the SunRisers Hyderabad acquired the Aussie skipper for ₹20.50 crore. However, former Indian skipper MS Dhoni's response to a fan's request to join the Royal Challengers Bangalore and win them a trophy has broken the internet.

In an event, a young RCB fan asked MS Dhoni to support his team and win a trophy for them in the IPL. The fan stated, "I’ve been a die-hard RCB fan for 16 years, and like the way you’ve won five titles for CSK, I want you to come support us and win one trophy for us."

Captain Cool gracefully responded, "They (RCB) are a very good team. Also, what you need to see is in cricket everything doesn't go according to plan. So, if you’re talking about IPL, all the 10 teams, more often than not, if they have the full players, all of them are very strong teams. The problem arises if you are missing a few players because of injury. So, they are a very good team and everyone has a fair chance in IPL."

Thala added, "As of now, I have so many things to worry about in my team. I would like to wish every team all the very best, but more than that, I can't do much as of now. Imagine me coming out of the way to support or help some other team. How will our fans feel?"

In a post-auction press conference in Dubai, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming revealed that they had a succession plan for Dhoni "for about 10 years". The former New Zealand captain said, "We’ve had succession plans for MS for about 10 years. It is going to be a talking point, but he is as engaged and as enthusiastic as I have seen him for a while. While that passion is there for the team and franchise, we’ll roll on."

With the IPL 2023 victory, MS Dhoni helped the Chennai Super Kings equal the Mumbai Indians as the two most successful IPL teams with five titles a piece.
