MI New York and Seattle Orcas both entered the final of the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket 2023 on the back of brilliant performances. However, MI New York’s wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran stole the show in the grand finale, which was underway at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
The stand-in skipper of MI New York, who took charge in the absence of Kieron Pollard and played a captain’s knock with a score of 137* off 55 deliveries to help his side win the inaugural edition by seven wickets. While he reached his half-century off only 16 balls, his century came in 40 deliveries.
The stand-in skipper took off his helmet after running a single to reach his century and screamed celebrating his all-important knock for the MINY.

The Trinidadian cricketer also received a standing ovation from his teammates in the dugout along with the crowd also standing in for a brilliant knock from the skipper. It is to be noted that during his stay at the crease, Pooran smashed 10 boundaries and 13 maximums at a strike rate of 249.09.
Talking about the match, MI New York won the toss and opted to field first. The Pooran-led side restricted the Wayne Parnell-led Seattle Orcas to 183/9 in the 20 overs with Trent Boult and Rashid Khan both scalping three wickets each while a wicket from Steven Taylor and David Wiese. However, an unbeaten 137 from Nicholas Pooran held the MINY seal the match with four overs to spell to add one more trophy to their glittering cabinet.
