Former Arsenal forward Pi erre Emerick Aubameyang couldn’t control his emotions following Marseille’s heartbreaking 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in the 2023-24 UEFA Europa League (UEL) Semi-final Leg 2 game at Gewiss Stadium. The loss meant a semi-final exit of the France-based club from the second-tier European football league.
In the first round of the penultimate clash, Marseille managed to draw out the game by 1-1 with Atalanta where Chancel Mbemba pulled out a stunning effort to keep the game in bay. In the second leg, it was Atalanta’s one-sided dominance that assured another insipid performance by the visiting side. For Atalanta’s Lookman, Ruggeri, and Toure, there wasn’t anyone for Marseille, who could open the account.
After the unwanted result, Aubameyang couldn’t hold himself long as he broke down into tears as soon as the final whistle blew. The striker tried to compose himself but couldn’t hide his emotions as this wasn’t the first time that the striker had suffered heartbreak in the competition.
