Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, met Indian hockey legend PR Sreejesh and his family at his residence in New Delhi recently. During his interaction with PR Sreejesh’s son, PM Modi asked the young boy about whether his father hits him to which he nodded in reply, leading to incessant laughter from everyone in the room.
Notably, PR Sreejesh retired from international hockey after winning the second consecutive bronze medal at the Olympics in Paris. In the bronze medal match at Stade Yves-du-Manoir, India defeated Spain 2-1 in a highly competitive contest which saw two goals from the captain Harmanpreet Singh apart from many important saves from PR Sreejesh at key times.
Since returning to India, PR Sreejesh has gotten a warm reception from fans and dignitaries in New Delhi, giving him a perfect send off after the conclusion of a fabulous playing career at the international level. The recent interaction of PR Sreejesh and his family with PM Modi at his residence is a prime example.

PR Sreejesh also spoke to the reporters at the international airport and said, “Working hard for the country, sacrificing a lot and then winning a medal, it is not just for me, but for the country. So, to be a part of this happiness, the welcome organised by everyone, is like the cherry on top of the cake. The pleasure is doubled.”
