Indian PM Narendra Modi met and interacted with the Indian cricket team at his residence on Thursday, July 4. Team India arrived home after defeating and winning the T20 World Cup after a long gap of 17 years. The Men in Blue took down South Africa in a last-over thriller to lift the ICC silverware. Following their World Cup victory, the team along with Indian journalists were stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. The BCCI sent a charted Air India Boeing 777 to take the winners home.
The Men in Blue received a warm welcome from fans and BCCI on landing in Delhi and later met the Indian PM for breakfast. In a video by ANI, the team members along with outgoing head coach Rahul Dravid and BCCI officials Jay Shah and Roger Binny, could be seen interacting with Modi at his official residence. Not only this, but Modi also posed with the team and the coveted trophy.
Notably, the 2024 world champions are scheduled to fly to Mumbai later in the day. In Mumbai, Rohit Sharma and Co. will participate in an open-bus victory parade from Nariman Point to Marine Drive, 5 pm onwards. A felicitation ceremony will then take place at the Wankhede Stadium. The entry at the stadium is free for fans on Thursday, and gates 2, 3 and 4 will open at 4 pm.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma sent an open invite to fans for the victory parade. The 37-year-old cricketer tweeted, “We want to enjoy this special moment with all of you. So let’s celebrate this win with a victory parade at Marine Drive & Wankhede on July 4th from 5:00 pm onwards. It’s coming home.”
