After winning 10 consecutive matches, Team India faced a disappointing result in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 final as Australia won their record-extending sixth championship. Millions of dreams were shattered with India's loss and the Men in Blue were left heartbroken, however, the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi encouraged the players after interacting with them in the dressing room.

Despite Virat Kohli shattering the previous record of highest runs in a single World Cup edition by Sachin Tendulkar and winning the Player of the Tournament award while Mohammad Shami was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament, India failed to win the championship at their home which left the whole team including coaches and staff in distress.

After the match, PM Narendra Modi met the Indian players in the dressing room and a video has gone viral on social media. In the video, PM Modi encouraged skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli by holding their hands and acknowledging the hard work of each player. He went on to cheer Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, Mohammad Shami, Japrit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav, and KL Rahul.

PM Modi applauded Mohammad Shami's spectacular performance throughout the tournament while he had a fun interaction with Bumrah and also lauded coach Rahul Dravid. PM Modi was accompanied by the  Minister of Home Affairs of India, Amit Shah.

Team India are next scheduled to face Australia in a 5-match home T20I series and the BCCI has named an 18-member squad for the series, which will be led by Suryakumar Yadav while Ruturaj Gaikwad will be his deputy.
