Former India cricketer and often called as ‘The Wall’ of Test cricket in India, Rahul Dravid ended his tenure as Team India’s head coach with a historic T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in the Caribbean. The 51-year-old was seen at his wittiest best in a recent interaction at the CEAT awards as he engaged with the guests and audience consisting of stars, cricketers, among others.
The former India cricketer, who looked comparatively relaxed, was asked questions around his future plans, while some even recalled Dravid’s ‘Indiranagar ka gunda’ advertisement, which went viral as the fans got to know of an all-new face of the Indian batter. While he spoke of the beauty at award function, he also spoke of the truth in a game of cricket. “The beauty of functions like this and the beauty of awards like this is that when they put up these videos, they show just the lovely things that you have done on the cricket field. The honest fact, and that is the truth, is that you are failing a lot more than you are succeeding in this game. But that’s what makes it so much more fun, so much more enjoyable,” he said.

Soon afterwards, the floor was left open for questions and one of the guests went up to Dravid to give him a career advice. Meanwhile, another one voiced, “Indiranagar ka gunda” referring to the advertisement which featured the former India cricketer which got a new face of Dravid in front of the audience. In reply, the former India head coach was quick to respond as he said, “That was so embarrassing to do for 30 seconds. I was like no way, I can’t do any form of acting …. It was so difficult to do. So that’s not my skill. But yes, any career advice, I will send you my email, any thoughts, send to me.” This not only left everyone in shock, but also saw guests burst into a laugh.

The 51-year-old notably, did not stop here as another one from the guests questioned him about his biopic to which he dropped another witty reply adding, “It’s good enough money, I will play it”, leaving everyone in splits.
It is to be noted that Dravid, during his days as Team India’s head coach, took the side to the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, the ODI World Cup 2023 final. While the Rohit Sharma-led side missed winning the title on both the occasions, he finally ended the team’s title drought with the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in June.
