Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian spin bowler, shockingly announced his sudden retirement from international cricket after the conclusion of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Trophy at the Gabba in Brisbane on Wednesday, December 18. Just a day later, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a hilarious video of him on their official X account, watching the Indian support staff bowl in the indoor nets, creating moments for life after hanging up his boots at the international level.
Notably, in the recent months leading up to his sudden international retirement, Ravichandran Ashwin wasn’t at his usual best with the ball, which had led to India losing their first Test series at home in 12 years, getting whitewashed in a three-match series against New Zealand. After being picked for the ongoing BGT series against Australia, Washington Sundar was preferred over Ravichandran Ashwin for the first Test in Perth before Ravindra Jadeja took a spot from him in the third Test in Brisbane.
Ravichandran Ashwin's last international wicket was Mitchell Marsh
The last outing for Ravichandran Ashwin in Indian colours happened during the day-night pink ball Test match at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide earlier this month, where he picked up his final international wicket, dismissing Mitchell Marsh caught behind. Although the international career of Ravichandran Ashwin came to a sudden end, he left the Indian cricket team stronger than he found them, which would be the last legacy as far as his on-field exploits are concerned.

Off the field, Ravichandran Ashwin is known to be quite a character, which was fully on display in the recent clip shared by the BCCI on the social media platform X, wherein he was asking the members of the Indian support staff to have a bowl at the indoor nets before having a laugh at their expense. The likes of Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, and Dhruv Jurel also watched on as Ravichandran Ashwin gave some tips to the support staff members about how to bowl a certain delivery, but ultimately, it turned out to be quite a fun adventure of sorts for all of them.
Moreover, Ravichandran Ashwin is reportedly due to leave the Indian cricket team after announcing his international retirement, travelling from Australia to India in a flight as of this writing.
