Robin Uthappa, the former Indian T20 World Cup winner, started his campaign for Rajasthan Kings in the Legends Cricket Trophy with a sparkling fifty against Kandy Samp Army. His contribution was vital for the Kings to secure a comfortable win over the Samp Army by 44 runs in the 15-over-a-side contest at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
The captain of Kandy Samp Army, Irfan Pathan, won the toss and chose to field first in Pallekele. After Kirk Edwards lost his wicket early in the powerplay for Rajasthan Kings, Hamilton Masakadza joined his captain Robin Uthappa to stitch together a 68-run stand for the second wicket.
Robin Uthappa dominated the bowling lineup of Kandy Samp Army, hitting them for fours and sixes all over the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. He was severe on anything short and in his half, lofting the ball with ease during his stay at the crease.
With the strike rate over 200, Robin Uthappa scored 72 runs in 30 balls, to put Rajasthan Kings well on their way to achieving an above-par total. Hamilton Masakadza scored a fifty for the team, while Angelo Perara got a quick-fire 26 of 9, to push the team’s total to 176/4 in their allotted 15 overs.
Rajasthan Kings defended the 177-run target with ease, thanks mainly to the four-wicket haul from Parvinder Awana, who gave away only 13 runs in his three-over spell. Shadab Jakati and Manpreet Gony were immense for the team in the supporting cast, picking up a couple of wickets each at a reasonably economical rate, to restrict Kandy Samp Army to 132/8 at the end of their innings.
Notably, Robin Uthappa scored another fifty in the next Legends Cricket Trophy 2024 match for Rajasthan Kings. But this time around, his batting exploits were enough for the team, who lost the contest against Punjab Royals by seven wickets.
