What a thriller of a match one witnessed at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) between arch-rivals India and Pakistan. While Pakistan posted 159/8 after being invited to bat first by India, in response, the Men in Blue reached their target only in the last-ball. The Indian team were reduced to 31/4, thanks to wickets by Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah coupled with a run out from captain Babar Azam.
However, Virat Kohli (82* off 53) and Hardik Pandya (40 off 37) helped India come back into the match and while Hardik departed in the final over, Kohli remained unbeaten till the end and was at the non-striker's end when R Ashwin scored a boundary with 1 needed off just 1 ball. It helped that there was a no ball that Kohli hit for a maximum in the last over after which the free hit went for 3 byes.
As soon as Ashwin hit the winning runs, India started celebrating what had been a famous win and will go down as an iconic one in the India-Pakistan rivalry. Captain Rohit Sharma was seen lifting the Hero of the Match King Kohli who also seemed relieved after helping India cross the line. Kohli seemed to soak it all in after being in the middle of a high-pressure situation.
