Notably, the captain of Ireland, Paul Stirling, got the toss to fall in his favour and invited India to bat first. Although the Irish bowlers managed to get the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma, in quick succession, during the powerplay overs, the rest of the first innings belonged to the Indian batters.

Ruturaj Gaikwad top scored for Team India with 58 off 43 balls, including six fours and one maximum, while stitching together a 71-run stand with Sanju Samson, who contributed 40 off 26 balls with five fours and one maximum. Rinku Singh then kick-started flourish in the late overs with his 38 off 21 balls, while Shivam Dube helped him with 22 off 16 balls.

In their defence of the 185-run total, Team India picked up the first wicket through Prasidh Krishna in the third over, who sent the Ireland captain Paul Stirling back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers. Three balls later, the Indian fast bowler dismissed Lorcan Tucker for 0 after Ruturaj Gaikwad managed to keep hold of the ball following his collision with Shivam Dube.
