The Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) registered their fifth straight defeat in IPL 2024 as they succumbed to the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Earlier in the match, it was RCB who won the toss and invited the visitors to put the score first on the board.
On the back of a 102-run knock from Travis Head and a crucial 31-ball 67 from Heinrich Klaasen, SRH posted the highest-ever total in IPL history of 287 runs. In return, the RCB failed to chase the total, eventually falling short by 25 runs. During this game, former New Zealand and CSK all-rounder Scott Styris was once again seen wearing the RCB jersey after he was challenged by former South African and RCB cricketer AB de Villiers.
After RCB’s defeat, the former Protean cricketer requested Styris to stop wearing the RCB jersey, hoping that the franchise overturn their fortunes in the IPL 2024. In response to Styris post, De Villiers replied, “Please stop wearing that shirt immediately!!!!”.
Scott Styris challenges AB de Villiers to wear CSK jersey in IPL 2024
In order to end the RCB’s losing streak, AB de Villiers ended his challenge, but things took a different turn with the former Kiwi cricketer putting up another condition if ABD wants him to stop it “immediately”. In a video shared by JioCinema, Styris challenged the South African great that he’ll do so only if AB agrees to wear CSK jersey once.
“I said I would wear the shirt. It has been a bad omen. I am a bad mascot for RCB, which is pleasing from my perspective. So I am prepared to put out a challenge back to AB de Villiers because he says it’s time for me to stop wearing the shirt. I will stop wearing the shirt for RCB matches moving forwards if De Villiers wears CSK shirt once. He is coming back from The Insiders from the last week of the playoffs,” the 48-year-old said.
Former England cricketer and 2019 ODI World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan, who was present alongside Styris agreed to be a “fair” offer for the counter challenge.
Scott Styris blames AB de Villiers for RCB’s back-to-back losses
The former Kiwi international had earlier blamed the Protean great for posing such a challenge to him, which turned out to take a different turn as RCB registered back-to-back losses in the ongoing IPL. Taking to X after RCB’s fourth successive defeat which came against PBKS, Scott Styris wrote, “I must thank @ABdeVilliers17 for making me wear this @RCBTweets shirt every game they play. #0-3 since he did”.
Speaking of the Bengaluru-based franchise, RCB are reeling at the bottom most spot in the IPL 2024 standings with a solitary win from seven games. However, they are currently on a five-match losing streak, their only win came against the Punjab Kings on March 25 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
