Shikhar Dhawan, the captain of Punjab Kings, posted a video on his official Instagram account, in which he announced his return to practice in the build-up to the IPL 2024. The 38-year-old was retained by the PBKS team management recently before the IPL 2024 auction, keeping the faith in him after a tough league season earlier this year.

After joining the Punjab Kings in 2022, Shikhar Dhawan managed to continue being one of the most consistent scorers in the league, putting together 460 runs in 14 matches at an average of 38.33 and a strike rate of 122.67 in the IPL that year. It led to the PBKS team management giving him the captaincy in the 2023 season, but he only played 11 matches, putting together 373 runs at an average of 41.44 and a highly impressive strike rate of 142.91.

Under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan, Punjab Kings finished at the eighth position in the IPL 2023 standings, ahead of Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad after winning just six matches in 14. After a few short months, on Monday, December 11, he sent out a video on his official Instagram account to show the fans a glimpse of his preparation for the IPL 2024 season for the PBKS.

In the short clip, Shikhar Dhawan was spotted putting in the stretches with the cricket kit on before he took guard to play defensive strokes, followed by attacking strokes too. He quoted his post, “Returning to the cricket pitch, where each shot feels like a reunion with an old friend.”
