The captain of Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill, was involved in a heated argument with the on-field umpire Vinod Seshan over a wide ball call during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash against Rajasthan Royals. The controversial moment happened in the latter stages of the RR batting innings, and they posted a formidable score of 196/3 on the board.

It was the last ball of the 17th over from Mohit Sharma, delivered to Sanju Samson, which was well outside the off stump, called a wide by the on-field umpire Vinod Seshan. The Gujarat Titans captain opted for the review after seeing that the batter was standing outside the off stump, which meant that the tramlines had also moved.   Check the top betting trends on the  best betting sites in India  and apps.

The third umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan initially decided to reverse the on-field decision, not calling it a wide, but moments later, he opted for another replay before deciding that the original call stood. It led to Shubman Gill, who wasn’t impressed with the change of mind from the third umpire, arguing with Vinod Seshan about what had transpired in the third umpire’s room.

Matthew Wade, the wicket-keeper for Gujarat Titans, had a bemused reaction to the botched wide ball call, costing them a run and a ball.

Moreover, it was the third wicket partnership of 130 runs between Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag, who had both scored fifties, propelled Rajasthan Royals into a strong position against Gujarat Titans. Notably, during the last season of the IPL, GT had defeated RR at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, chasing a 119-run target with nine wickets in hand.
