As the IPL 2024 progresses, the match seven of the tournament saw Chennai Super Kings (CSK) host Gujarat Titans (GT) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Both the two teams, who are coming after a win in their respective previous matches, are being led by two young captains in Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill.
With the two Indian youngsters coming for the toss amid loud cheer in favour of the home captain, it was the visiting side, who won the toss and opted to field first. But just at the coin toss, Gill called to bat first, but was quick to overturn it and call for bowl first on the mic. The video of the incident is now going viral, which even left Ruturaj Gaikwad in smiles.
“We will bowl first. That (against MI) match was physical and mentally exhausting. Everyone is well rested and well settled with 10 teams playing. We get enough rest time between matches. It shows the character of the team, the way our bowlers bounced back against Mumbai,” Gill said at the toss, confirming that they will go with the same team.
The GT are playing their same XI as their match against Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians. On the back brilliant bowling from GT bowlers, including the likes of Azmatullah Omarzai, Umesh Yadav, Spencer Johnson and Mohit Sharma, the GT restricted MI to 162/9, eventually keeping them short of six runs. After their maiden win of the season, the Shubman Gill-led GT sit at third place with +0.300 NRR.
