The Women's Premier League final 2024 saw Royal Challengers Bangalore spinner Sophie Molineux pick up three wickets in her second over to derail a roaring Delhi Capitals side. Playing at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, DC won the toss and started on a blistering note with bat. The successful opening pair of Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma posted 64 in the first seven overs.
Then delivering the eighth, Sophie Molineux stepped up and dismissed Shafali Verma on a score of 44 in 27 balls. The Aussie tweaker then had a dot ball after which she dismissed Jemimah Rodrigues on zero. The fourth ball of the eighth over produced another wicket as DC star Alice Capsey attempted a bizarre shot leading to another golden duck.
These quick wickets certainly put extra pressure on Delhi, leading to a massive collapse. From 61-0 to 87-7, the RCB spinners ran through the Capitals. The trio of Molineux, Shreyanka Patil and Asha Sobhana picked up all seven wickets with the Indian pair scalping two wickets each.
We need to be at our best tonight: Smriti Mandhana
Ahead of the match, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana spoke about how the team has battled a lot of adversity but needs to put in their best effort tonight. Speaking at the toss, Mandhana said, "We would have batted first as well, but I think it doesn't really go well, we will have to bowl well, stick to our plans and play some good cricket. We've had a lot of ups and downs so far, but we need to be at our best tonight. This is the 4th match on the same wicket, the last game, it played slow. We've one change - Meghana comes in for Disha Karat."
