22-year-old Marco Jansen played one hell of an innings for Sunrisers Eastern Cape on January 18 (Wednesday) during ongoing SA20 as he single-handedly took his side over a winning margin against MI Cape Town. With the help of seven maximums and three boundaries, Jansen smashed brilliant 66 off just 27 deliveries to chase down 172/8 as he got little help from the other batters.
In response to MI Cape Town's 171, Sunrisers had a topsy turvy start to their run-chase as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. When Jansen came to bat at number 7 in the 13th over, Sunrisers were reeling at 91/5 with 81 runs needing off 47 deliveries. While MI's victory looked certain, Jansen did the unprecedented as he took the onus and ensured thrilling 2-wicket last over victory for Cape Town. Jansen's incredible knock came against the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Jofra Archer, Sam Curran and Rashid Khan.
During his innings, Jansen didn't only hurt the blowers of the opposite side, but one of his shots indirectly caused much trouble to presenter Zainab Abbas. While she was interviewing a member of the support staff near the boundary rope, Abbas found herself at the wrong end of her job when Sam Curran came directly towards her to stop a boundary but ended up into massive collision.
However, Abbas managed to prevent herself from hitting the ball but came in the way of Curran and as a result both ended up in a collision outside the boundary. Abbas fell on the ground before she was offered hand by another presenter. “I’ve survived, but now I know how it feels! get that ice pack out,” Abbas tweeted after the match.
Talking of the game, Marco Jansen was adjudged Player of the Match for his incredible knock, while Sunrisers Eastern registered their second win in the competition.
