Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar slammed cricket teams and their media for criticising the Indian team and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Gavaskar was a part of the commentary panel during the second Test between South Africa and India, alongside Irfan Pathan and Jatin Sapru. After registering a shameful defeat in the first Test on Protean soil, India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, locked horns with Dean Elgar-side for the last clash of the multi-format series.
During the India innings, Gavaskar slammed the cricket boards of South Africa, England, and Australia while saying that it was the BCCI that has always been responsible for their functioning.
Gavaskar said, "The cricketing boards of South Africa, England, and Australia should understand that it is the BCCI that is responsible for their functioning. What if the BCCI refuses to travel to these nations? Would they be able to sell their broadcasting rights? No, they wouldn’t have been able to sell them even for 5 rupees."

The cricketer-turned-commentator went on to say, “ What I’m trying to say is except the current players, the former cricketers of these nations and their media have time and again criticised the BCCI and Indian cricketers.” He concluded by labelling them "Rotdu", which translates into ‘crybabies', to which Pathan and Sapru burst into laughter.
The visitors bundled out the Proteas team at 55, courtesy of Mohammed Siraj’s six-wicket haul, along with Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar’s two wickets each. In their inning, India scored 110 runs by the time they lost four wickets within 22.2 overs. In South Africa’s first inning, Kyle Verreynne remained the highest scorer with 15 runs in 30 balls.
