On Saturday, November 23, Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian captain, released a video on his official Instagram account, to threaten legal action on a cricket website for publishing a fake article under his name. The 75-year-old, who shared the video on social media from Perth where the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series between Australia and India is being played at the Optus Stadium, categorically told the cricket website to take the article down immediately from the internet apart from issuing an apology to him.
Notably, a website named “Cricket Ception” published an article online under Sunil Gavaskar’s name a day ago, which was titled “A New Era in Leadership: Bumrah’s Captaincy and Kohli’s Leadership Revive Team India.” In this fake article, as claimed by Sunil Gavaskar, he reportedly praised Jasprit Bumrah, who is playing the role of Indian stand-in captain in Perth Test, and former skipper Virat Kohli, for ensuring the team’s comeback on the first day with the ball, restricting Australia to 67/7 after being bowled out for 150.
Issue an apology. If you don't do that immediately, I will give the matter to my legal team: Sunil Gavaskar
After Sunil Gavaskar got the wind of Cricket Ception’s article under his name doing the rounds, he posted a video on Instagram, calling it a fake one, while captioning his post, “Never believe everything you see on the Internet #alwaysverify.” He said, “Hi, this is Sunil Gavaskar and I want to say that there is a website Cricket Ception which has printed an article under my name. I have to say that that is completely fake. I have not contributed that at all and I want to tell that website to take it down immediately.”
