On June 29, the Men in Blue joined the likes of West Indies and England to win two T20 World Cup titles. The Rohit Sharma-led side defeated South Africa by seven runs to lift the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Earlier in the match, Team India won the toss and opted to bat first.
Although they did not have the start that was expected but Virat Kohli stood up to the occasion and played a 59-ball 76, along with a crucial 47-run knock from Axar Patel to help the side post 176 runs on the board. Apart from them, Shivam Dube also played a 16-ball 27 to put a decent total on the board.
In their defense of the 177-run target, the Indian bowling attack, including the likes of Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh picked up crucial wickets to restrict the Protea Men to 169/8 in the 20 overs. Although, this win proves to be crucial for the billions of Indian fans, the Indian team had a moment to remember, ending their 11-year wait for an ICC title.
As the evening progressed, it was Rohit Sharma, the skipper of the side who was handed the trophy by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah with the other players around him. Just when things got over, it was Head Coach Rahul Dravid who joined in to celebrate this moment as he steps down from the post.
In the video going viral from T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli, who now has retired from T20Is, handed the trophy to former Indian cricketer. On being handed the trophy, Rahul Dravid looked all pumped up as he lifted the coveted title in air, shouting “Come on” amidst loud cheer.
