Mumbai Indians continued their streak of losing their first league after they lost against Chennai Super Kings in the third match of IPL 2025 at M.A Chidambaram Stadium. Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side kickstarted their campaign with a four-wicket win. Despite losing the game, MI found a new star in the form of 24-year-old Vignesh Puthur. The left-arm spinner gave a ray of hope to MI by taking three wickets in his debut IPL match. His wickets included, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda.

After the match, Vignesh Puthur also got acknowledgement for his fighting performance as franchise owner Nita Ambani presented him with the dressing room best bowler award. In a video posted by MI on their X, Nita Ambani lauded Vignesh for his performance against CSK. After that, the young spinner can also be seen touching her feet as a mark of respect.
