The Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr honoured the club legend and footballing icon Cristiano Ronaldo with a new No. 7 pendant. The 23-year-old wears the most-sought-after No. 7 jersey at the Galacticos during the current season, after receiving it from Eden Hazard, following his departure from the club this summer.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been one of the most instrumental factors in immortalising the No. 7 in Real Madrid, during his tenure at the club from 2009 to 2018. He had received the No. 7 jersey at the Los Blancos from Raul, another top-tier footballer in his time.
Vinicius Jr, one of the many players who has been inspired by the five-time Ballon d’Or recipient, decided to honour the man with a silver pendant, which has been designed with the No. “7”. The back of the pendant had the trademark CR7 celebration, known as “SIUUU,” engraved on it.
When ESPN FC sent out the pictures of the pendant on their official Twitter account, it sent the entire social media platform into a frenzy. The fans of Ronaldo and Vinicius were quick to react in appreciation of their favourite players, while going gaga about the No. 7 pendant too.
After getting the No. 7 shirt at Real Madrid, Vinicius Jr talked about what it meant to him to receive the iconic number at the club. He was quoted as saying to MARCA website, “I'm very grateful to wear this jersey that many other great players have worn. It means a lot to me. It's a number that I've liked since I was a child.”
“I am inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo because I've watched all of his games and he marked an era at the club. He's an idol for me,” remarked the 23-year-old footballer.
