India cricketer Virat Kohli, regarded as one of the greatest players to have donned the Indian jersey, was part of the victory parade hosted by the BCCI on Thursday, July 4. The cricketing board planned a grand welcome for the T20 World Cup 2024 winners including an open-bus victory parade and a felicitation ceremony at Wankhede Stadium. During the celebrations, Mumbai’s traffic came to a standstill and a huge crowd gathered to welcome the champions home.
Apart from the winning team, BCCI officials including Jay Shah and Rajeev Shukla boarded the victory parade bus. A video from the parade has been doing rounds on social media, where Virat Kohli could be seen asking Shukla to move aside, who was standing at the front. Kohli requested the BCCI official and pulled Rohit Sharma, standing at the back, to the front.
The 35-year-old lifted the trophy with Sharma and celebrated the win with fans. Shukla’s presence in the team bus garnered a reaction from fans.
It is to be noted that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20I cricket. Later, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja joined them, bringing down the curtains on his T20I career.
