On Monday, December 30, Australia came out to bat after the last men standing in Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon stitched a 55-run partnership to help the hosts put a formidable lead on the board. The duo added six runs to their overnight score before Jasprit Bumrah got him early on the final day of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at MCG.
With India coming in the bat in order to chase a mammoth 340-run target on the final day of the Boxing Day Test, they suffered a collapse with three batters departing cheaply. At lunch on Day 5 the scoreboard read 33/3 with Rohit Sharma (9 off 40), KL Rahul (0 off 5) and Virat Kohli (5 off 29) back to the pavilion.

To much disappointment, the senior Indian batters in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli once again failed to contribute with the bat. To add worries, Virat Kohli, who has been struggling to play outside off-stump, once again fell to a similar dismissal. The 36-year-old chased the outside off-stump delivery off Mitchell Starc, but edged and was caught by Usman Khawaja in the slips.

While Khawaja completed an easy catch, Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma, who was also in attendance, alongside KL Rahul’s wife Athiya Shetty, was left in distraught. The Bollywood celebrity showcased range of emotions that resonated with millions. She looked visibly disheartened by the turn of events, pictures of which have been making waves on social media.
