Virat Kohli, the former Indian captain, revealed his best Test knock in Australia during the team’s headshot session ahead of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series down under, which will begin with the first game in Perth in just four day’s time on Friday, November 22. In his response to the question asked by Mohammed Siraj in the video posted on the official Instagram account of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli regarded his Test hundred from six years ago at the Optus Stadium as his best one.
Notably, in the second Test of the BGT 2018-19, Virat Kohli scored 123 runs in 257 balls, which was the only three figure score among all the batters of both India and Australia. It was a very difficult pitch for the batters at the Optus Stadium in Perth six years ago with excessive and variable bounce along with some seam and swing for the bowlers, which led to a lot of players getting hit on their body, suffering injuries in the process.
My best knock in Australia will definitely be my 100 at Perth. 2018-19 series that we played: Virat Kohli
Although India went onto lose the second Test match by 146 runs, they managed to win the four-match series 2-1, their first victory of such a kind in Australia. Fast forward to six years later, when Mohammed Siraj questioned Virat Kohli in the ‘Ask the Next One’ segment about his favourite Test knock in Australia, the former Indian captain was quick to remind himself about his batting performance at the Optus Stadium in Perth, where he will be playing for the second time in Tests later this week.
Watch the video of Indian players' asking questions to each other, including Mohammed Siraj's one to Virat Kohli:
Virat Kohli was quoted as saying, “My best knock in Australia will definitely be my 100 at Perth. 2018-19 series that we played. I thought that was the toughest pitch that I played on in Test cricket. It was great to get a hundred on that tour.” The 37-year-old is not in the best of forms in Test cricket recently, but still, he will be relying on the good memories of his past tours in Australia, which have been quite successful for him individually and as a member of the Indian cricket team.
