The final match of the three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand ended with no result as rain played a spoilsport. But in the limited amount of play that was possible, New Zealand dictated terms. The Kiwis bowled India out for 219 and then scored 104 runs in just 18 overs. Meanwhile, for India, Shreyas Iyer and Washington Sundar made handy contributions with the bat.

While Iyer was dismissed one short of his half-century, Sundar scored 51 off 64 balls to notch up his maiden ODI fifty. The all-rounder grabbed the limited opportunity presented to him. While Sundar played a brisk inning (36* off 17) in the first ODI, he anchored the innings in the third one. As the all-rounder did terrific work throughout the series, he was invited for a chat.

Murali Karthik was the interviewer and he asked Sundar about the playing conditions and the weather. While answering the same question, Sundar forgot where the third ODI between the two teams was being played. “Definitely, playing for Lancashire in Manchester, it was very cold. Very similar to…ummm…where are we?” asked Sundar. Karthik then helped him by saying “We are in Christchurch”.

Coming to the ODI series, New Zealand won it 1-0 having won the first ODI. The Kane Williamson-led team had defeated India by seven wickets as Tom Latham scored a century (145*). The wicketkeeper batter, therefore, was also named the Player of the Series. Meanwhile, for India, Sundar and Iyer were the standout performers.

While Iyer scored 131 runs in two games, Sundar got 87 runs in the two innings. Umran Malik was the leading wicket-taker for India as the pacer bagged three wickets in two matches.
