Australia batter Will Pucovski was forced to make his way back to the pavilion after suffering a nasty blow on the helmet in the ongoing Sheffield Shield. Pucovski, who is playing for Victoria in the ongoing tournament, sustained this blow in the match against Tasmania on Sunday, March 3, adding to his long history with concussions.
With the Victoria team chasing a target of 442, the opponents introduced Riley Meredith into the attack. Meredith, who came out to bowl his 10th over, Pucovski took his eyes off a short ball. While he tried to duck it, he got a massive blow on his head and immediately fell on the ground.
The 26-year-old seemed in huge discomfort as the player and doctors gathered around him. The Victorian batter was soon on his feet and walked off the ground, retiring hurt for zero. Victoria later announced Campbell Kellaway as his concussion replacement.
“Will is currently in the hands of our medical professionals. We’ll look to provide an update in due course,” Victoria said in its statement. It is to be noted that the 26-year-old’s cricketing has been marred with 12 concussions. He made a return to cricket this Australian summer and taking leave from the game due to mental health reasons in October 2022.
