Although the schedule for the 2023 Asia Cup was announced, there is still chaos regarding the tournament as Pakistan's Sports Minister earlier threatened to not send his team to ODI World Cup in India. A senior ACC board member has hit back saying that the hybrid model was suggested by Pakistan Cricket Board itself.
After a meeting in Durban between Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Zaka Ashraf and BCCI secretary Jay Shah, it was decided that the Asia Cup would be contested under the proposed hybrid concept. However, Pakistan sports minister Mazari did not appear to be on the same path as the PCB and was cited as saying that Pakistan will not travel to India for the ODI World Cup until India comes to Pakistan for the Asia Cup.
Earlier a BCCI source had stated that Pakistan is "blissfully unaware" regarding the many meetings which took place earlier regarding the hosts of the Asia Cup. Now an ACC official has mentioned that they don’t care about the inner workings of the PCB as he told PTI, “We aren't concerned about the internal happenings of PCB. All that we know is that PCB is a signatory to the Hybrid Model which was proposed by their representative and passed at ACC's highest body."
The official added, "And just to refresh Pakistan's honorable sports minister's memory, it was PCB that had issued an official press release accepting that 4 games will be held in Pakistan and rest of the games in Sri Lanka."
Regarding the World Cup, the Pakistan Squad is legally obligated to travel to the World Cup in India. The PCB is bound by ICC's Members' Participation Agreement (MPA) which was signed by the full members in 2015 for an eight-year period ending in 2023. India are likely to play Pakistan in the 2023 Asia Cup in Dambulla just like in the 2010 edition.
