Glenn Maxwell, the Australian all-rounder, revealed shocking details about his fallout with former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag during their time at Kings XI Punjab, now known as Punjab Kings, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 season. In his book called “The Showman,” Glenn Maxwell claimed that Virender Sehwag, who was the Director of Cricket at KXIP at the time, picked the playing XI without consulting head coach J Arunkumar and him as the captain.

The 2017 season of the IPL was quite tough for Glenn Maxwell as player and captain of Kings XI Punjab, but despite that, he was proud of the team and their performances, winning seven out of 14 matches to finish outside of the playoff positions. But still, he believed that J Arunkumar was the head coach on paper with Virender Sehwag taking complete control of the franchise, not agreeing with everyone about their idea to bring all the coaches into a WhatsApp group to make decisions.

I’d been deleted from the main WhatsApp group: Glenn Maxwell reveals ordeal with KXIP from IPL 2017

In his recently published book, Glenn Maxwell also divulged on how he was kicked out of the WhatsApp group of Kings XI Punjab before learning about Virender Sehwag labelling him as a big disappointment of the IPL 2017 campaign. He was quoted as saying in “The Showman” about what transpired after KXIP were beaten comprehensively in the last game of the season against RPS, “I volunteered to do press that night, but Sehwag said he would instead.”

“Upon getting onto the team bus, I found I’d been deleted from the main WhatsApp group. What was going on here? By the time we reached the hotel my phone was blowing up, with Sehwag having unloaded on me as a “big disappointment”, blaming me for not taking responsibility as captain, and all the rest. It was unpleasant, especially when I thought we had parted on good terms,” wrote Glenn Maxwell about his ordeal at the end of the IPL 2017 season with Kings XI Punjab.

Afterwards, Glenn Maxwell tried to learn from Virender Sehwag about his unpleasant comments towards him, to which he got a cold response, and since then, they haven’t spoken to each other. The Australian all-rounder said, “I texted him to say how much it hurt to read those comments and added that he had lost a fan in me for the way he had conducted himself. Sehwag’s response was simple: ‘Don’t need a fan like you.’ We never spoke again.”
