Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh took an indirect dig at the Indian team management, including the coach, for preparing spin-friendly pitches to finish Tests in two and a half days. According to Singh, this approach has dented the confidence of the Indian batters as well as hampered the overall quality of the game. Notably, in recent years, Test matches in India rarely last to the full five days with both the hosts and visitors facing difficulties in scoring runs.
India has enjoyed success by winning 17 consecutive Test matches at home. However, the conditions have raised concerns about the quality of pitches. The former Indian off-spinner raised concerns and pointed out fingers at the pitches as the root cause of the issue. Singh indirectly took a dig at Indian captains and coaches for their role in the matter.
Singh, as quoted by DNA India, told Sports Tak, “We have been making pitches that turn a lot. We want to win in less than three days. I feel if we start making normal tracks, the results would still come, but it would take time. We have dented the confidence of our batters, and they are also struggling. He added, “We can still rectify the mistake. The pacers and spinners we have will win us the games on Day 5, if not on Day 3.”
The 2011 World Cup winning player said, "If you play on good pitches, the batters will score runs. I don’t think our batters have forgotten to play spin, but the issue is with the conditions, which have made scoring impossible for the willow holders.” Notably, India is set to clash against Bangladesh in a two-match Test series on September 19.
