Ahead of the second match of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which is set to happen at home against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), their fast bowling coach James Franklin spoke about the impressive performance from pacer Simarjeet Singh against Rajasthan Royals (RR) during their 44-run win. At the same time, the former New Zealand cricketer stated that the SRH team management still are trying to work out the best way to use Simarjeet Singh in their bowling lineup.
Notably, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Simarjeet Singh picked up the crucial wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag in one over in the power play stage while defending 286 runs in their IPL 2025 opener. Although he ended up conceding 46 runs in his three overs as the RR batters took full toll of him in the latter stages of their innings, SRH registered a comfortable win over RR in front of their home fans.
In the press conference ahead of the LSG clash, SRH fast bowling coach James Franklin spoke at length about the qualities of Simarjeet Singh, who is 27 years of age. He was quoted as saying, as per Cricbuzz, “You know, he's got some natural pace, he can move the ball through the air and if you're putting those two things together that obviously becomes quite an attractive skill set for a fast bowler to have and he's also got a few tricks up his sleeve with slower ball variations.”
“So, yeah, I guess it's him getting to understand how he fits into our group. Obviously, it's his first year with us and we're trying to work out what is the best way to use him,” James Franklin added.
The former New Zealand cricketer also applauded Simarjeet Singh for his efforts against RR on a tough pitch for bowling at home. He remarked, “The first game a couple of days ago, that first over was an unbelievable start for him getting us two massive wickets early and to set that tempo for us as a bowling group in that powerplay was massive. So, yeah, hopefully it's the start of something nice for him and for us.”
