Team India sealed qualification for the Super 8s after beating the USA by seven wickets in their third group stage match in the T20 World Cup 2024. This was Men in Blue's first clash against the Americans and managed to defeat them in a nervy chase on a difficult wicket to further their winning record in New York. Alongside India, Australia (Group B) and South Africa (Group D) have qualified for the Super 8s. Batting first, the hosts posted 110 runs for eight wickets. In return, after having lost opener Virat Kohli early, the Men in Blue cruised past the victory line owing to Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube’s 72-run stand.

Indian batting great Virat Kohli continued his disappointing T20 World Cup 2024 campaign as he got out on a golden duck against the USA. Chasing the tricky target of 111 on a difficult wicket, Team India had a horrid start as one of USA star players, Saurabh Netravalkar produced a jaffer that was enough to trouble Kohli. The Indian opener received a full delivery angled going across him. Kohli attempted to run the ball down but only managed to get an outside-edge which was comfortably taken by the keeper. As Kohli nicked the ball back and was given out, Rohit Sharma was in utter shock.

Josh Hazlewood ‘reveals’ plans of dropping England out of World Cup

Australian bowler Josh Hazlewood revealed how the team has planned to drop Ashes rivals out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 by manipulating margin of win over Scotland. His statement cme out after the Aussies registered a clinical win over Namibia and secured their Super 8 berth. Hazlewood said, "In this tournament you potentially come up against England at some stage again. They're probably one of the top few teams on their day and we've had some real struggles against them in T20 cricket, so if we can get them out of the tournament that's in our best interest as well as probably everyone else.”

Mohammad Nabi rises to top spot in ICC T20I All-Rounder Rankings

The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the updated T20I player rankings during the T20 World Cup 2024, which saw the Afghan Mohammad Nabi rise to the top spot in the all-rounder category. The 39-year-old benefitted replaced Shakib Al Hasan in the first place. In the batting rankings for the T20I format, Suryakumar Yadav stays in top spot, while Phil Salt continues to be in second place as well. Adil Rashid kept hold of the top spot in the ICC T20I bowling rankings, while Wanindu Hasaranga managed to remain in second place, irrespective of the tough start to the T20 World Cup campaign for their countries.

Indian cricketing legend Kapil Dev shared a piece of advice for the Indian team while raising concerns about the management’s decision to not open with star bowler Jasprit Bumrah in the T20 World Cup 2024. The 2007 T20 champions didn’t give the new ball to pacer Bumrah in both their matches against Ireland and Pakistan. Dev told ABP News, “He needs to bowl the first over, he is a wicket-taking bowler. If you make him bowl the fifth or sixth bowler, the game can slip out of your hands. This is not a Test match. This is T20. The quicker you take wickets, the more pressure it puts on the opposition.”

Hasan Ali condemns terrorist attacks on Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi

Pakistan’s star pacer Hasan Ali condemned terrorist attacks on Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district that took place a few days ago. On Sunday, June 9, a bus carrying several pilgrims to the religious Vaishno Devi shrine was attacked by a group of terrorists causing it to fall into a ditch. The attacks that are believed to be carried out by four Pakistani terrorists killed nine people, including toddlers as well as injured three dozen others. The Pakistan cricket star expressed his solidarity with the victims subjected to the attacks and shared a story on his Instagram. The story had ‘All Eyes on Vaishno Devi Attack’ written over it. Notably, Ali is married to Samiya Arzoo, who hails from India.
