Dominic Thiem, the former US Open champion, has announced that he will retire from tennis later this year, hoping to finish his career at the home tournament in Vienna in October. The 30-year-old, whose career has been plagued by a wrist injury, said, “It is a very important, very sad, very beautiful message that this season will be my last one. There are some reasons behind it: firstly, of course, my wrist. It is not exactly the way it should be and how I want it. The second reason is my inner feeling: I have been thinking about this decision for a very long time.”

Andy Murray to return to tennis at ATP Challenger event in Bordeaux
