The Indian Kabaddi team has had a dominant run in the ongoing Asian Kabaddi Championship 2023 with a record of four wins in four games. At this pace, Team India is slated to play in the final as the tournament follows a single-legged round-robin format, after which the top two teams advance to the final on July 30.
Starting off the tournament, India registered landslide wins over Korea (76-13) and Chinese Taipei (53-19) before defeating Japan with a massive 45-point margin. Then came the Indian team’s toughest challenge as they took on a formidable Iran, who were also undefeated up till that fixture in the Asian Kabaddi Championship.
From the opening whistle, this match played out like a thriller with both India and Iran going neck and neck with some high-quality kabaddi action. Team India, continuing their dominant streak, had a magical first half and lead Iran 19-9. But as the second half started, Iranis started on a positive note and soon managed to make it a five-point game after taking the score to 21-16.
Evading this Iranian comeback, the Indian team got back into the game with Pawan Sherwat continuing his top form. But the true game-changer was Nitesh Kumar’s super tackle which took the score to 33-27 and helped India seal a big win. Now with one last game remaining, India takes on a weakened Hong Kong side which has failed to win a single game so far in the tournament.
Hence after securing qualification for the final, the Indians would look to rest some key players as they get ready for the final. Further talking about the grand finale, Team India is set to face Iran as they are placed second on the table with six points from four games. The Iranian team will be taking on Japan in their last round-robin stage fixture, who have four points but their victory still keeps them away from the final’s birth as the Japanese have a poor point difference.
