Manchester Originals’ skipper Sophie Ecclestone got it right at the toss and elected to field first against the Birmingham Phoenix on Monday. The Phoenix openers got a 39-run opening stand, before both of them were dismissed by Ecclestone. After that she tossed the ball towards Morris, after more than half of the innings was over. She came onto bowl from the 56th ball and immediately struck gold on her very first ball, as she got the wicket of Amy Jones LBW.

She continued her magic as the match progressed and eventually ended up with four more wickets by dismissing Abigail Freeborn, Issy Wong, Charis Pavely and Hannah Baker. She ended her record-breaking spell with the figures of 5/7 from 16 balls at an economy rate of 2.62, a new record across the women's as well as men's competition. The outstanding spell of spin bowling breached the previous record of 4/9, which was held by South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp.

Alongside skipper Ecclestone, the duo decimated the Phoenix batting lineup for a mere total of just 87 runs in 96 balls. Ecclestone also had great figures, as she finished her spell with 4/20. The Originals’ batting lineup then went  to chase the total with five wickets to spare, courtesy of responsible knocks from Laura Wolvaardt and Ami Campbell. Fi Morris won the man of the match award for her amazing bowling spell.
