The IPL 2025 mega auction, which kicked off on Sunday, November 24 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The two-day extravaganza saw Chennai Super Kings acquiring the services of left-arm pacer Gurjapneet Singh at a whopping sum of INR 2.20 Crore. The 6’3” seamer, who was born in Ludhiana, Punjab and brought up in Ambala, Haryana, represents Tamil Nadu in the elite domestic cricket competition, Ranji Trophy.

Singh moved to Chennai at the age of 17 and seven years later, he made his debut in the Ranji Trophy, where he claimed six for 22 against former champions Saurashtra. The performance recorded to be his one of the best figures in the first-class innings by a Tamil Nadu pacer at home since the 2005-06. Singh has already been a part of the Yellow Army camp, when he served as a net bowler for the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side. Not only this, but recently, he also bowled for the Indian team ahead of the Bangladesh series.

Gurjapneet bowled in the Guru Nanak College nets, known as the hub of India Cements’ league teams, proved to be a turning point for the player. The 25-year-old made his debut in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) for Dindigul Dragons in 2021. However, a lower-back injury put a brief pause on the player’s career for a year.

Singh is known for generating movement with the new call, but his ability to hit hard lengths and bowl at pace makes him stand out. His height makes his natural length a bit shorter and with his pace, the bowler pushes the batter off the back foot. Due to these abilities, Singh is a perfect powerplay and middle-order specialist while his left-arm angle brings variety to the bowling attack.
