Mumbai Indians debutant Naman Dhir made an impact in his first IPL 2024 after he took a brilliant catch to send Rahul Tewatia back to the hut in the clash against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024. The five-time champions handed a debut to the young cricketer from Punjab on March 24, as they played their first IPL 2024 match against Gujarat Titans. Dhir made enough headlines in his first IPL game as he took a crucial wicket for his side.
Dhir, a 24-year-old right-hand-batter made his first-class debut in the 2022-2023 Ranji Trophy season as well as his T20 debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Dhir was part of the Punjab’s winning squad. Dhir played a total of four SMAT games for Punjab, which are his only four T20s at the senior level. In each match, Dhir batted at number three but failed to fetch a big score.
Dhir has scored only 39 runs in T20s with an average of 9.75. However, he rose to prominence and his fortune took a turn when he participated in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 Cup in 2023, and finished the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer with 466 runs from 12 games. He had an average of 42.36 and a strike rate of 192.56. In addition, Dhir was the only batter in the tournament with two hundreds and hit 30 sixes.
Speaking of his first-class record, the youngster has an average of 30.21 in 14 games with two centuries to his name, against Saurashtra and Gujarat.
