A new record was made during the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy fixture between Gujarat and Tripura in Indore on Wednesday, November 27. Chasing a target of 156 runs against Tripura, Gujarat batter Urvil Patel smashed an unbeaten 113 runs of just 35 balls, with seven fours and 12 sixes. During his fiery knock, Urvil completed his century in just 28 balls as Gujarat won the match by eight wickets with 58 balls to spare.
With this, Urvil Patel also scored the fastest T20 century by an Indian player and second fastest overall. The 26-year-old now comes in the league of players like Rishabh Pant and Chris Gayle to score fastest T20 centuries in international and domestic cricket. However, Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan tops the list for his 27-ball hundred against Cyprus in June, 2024.
Who is Urvil Patel?
Urvil Patel is the fastest Indian player to smash a century in T20 cricket including both international and domestic. He has played 44 matches in the domestic T20 career scoring 988 runs at a strike rate of 164.11. Apart from that, Urvil has also scored 415 runs in 14 List A matches, and 158 runs in six first-class matches of his career so far.
Urvil Patel also registered himself for the IPL 2025 mega auction at a base price of INR 30 Lakh. However, the Gujarat batter remained unsold in the auction just a couple of days before his record-breaking hundred.
