Turkey’s 51-year-old Yusuf Dikec, who is featuring at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024, made headlines after he was seen playing in the shooting competition without sporting the complete gear. The Turkish Olympian, however, went on to win a silver medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol event on Tuesday, July 30, but grabbed the limelight for competing without the gear.
It is to be noted that, Dikec paired with Sevval Ilayda Tarhan to compete in the same event where India’s mixed team of Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh won a bronze. Speaking in detail of the Turkish, while his pair Sevval donned specialised glasses and high-end ear protections like other participants, Dikec ditched them all and instead opted to go with regular prescription glasses and wore simple earplugs to cancel bullet noise.

It is to be noted that Dikec is competing in his fifth Olympic Games this year. The 51-year-old made his debut in 2008 at the Beijing Olympics but won his first medal in the mixed team event at the ongoing Paris Olympics. Apart from this, Dikec has won multiple gold medals in ISSF World Championships, ISSF World Cup, European Championships and the European games.
