Former India cricketer and Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni’s future in the Indian Premier league (IPL) has been the talking point for year now. However, what seems to be his last IPL in 2024, who will take over the captaincy charge for the five-time champions has been the point of discussion this time around.
However, the 42-year-old is yet to announce his retirement from IPL, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan in his recent interview with S Badrinath on latter’s YouTube channel, revealed the team’s future plans. Although, the team might have started to look at the options available to fill up MS Dhoni’s shoes at the helm, the CEO added that they have left it to the captain and the coach to decide.
“In internal discussions, Srinivasan has made it very clear. Let’s not talk about captain and vice-captain appointments. Let’s leave it to the coach and the captain to decide. He has said that ‘the captain and the coach will decide and give us a directive, till then let’s all keep quiet’,” said Viswanathan. Moreover, Kasi Viswanathan also revealed MS Dhoni’s plan ahead of IPL 2024. “Before every season, MS Dhoni tells us ‘first let us concentrate on league games. We will look to qualify for knockouts’,” he quoted.
CSK to play RCB in tournament opener in Chennai on March 22
The MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings will begin their title defense in clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on March 22. They will next host Gujarat Titans at their home on March 26 before moving to Visakhapatnam to take on Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals on March 31.
As far as the schedule announced so far by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the yellow Army will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on April 5.
