IPL 2024 auction saw several players get a huge sum of money which included the likes of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc getting more than INR 20 Crore, while some uncapped players like Sameer Rizvi also got INR 8.4 Crore. Here, in this article we will have a look at the order so as to which team has a good chance to win the upcoming IPL season based on their squads and first XII (likely players).

Teams'  strength as per IPL 2024 squads:

  • Mumbai Indians
  • Chennai Super Kings
  • Gujarat Titans
  • Rajasthan Royals
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad
  • Lucknow Super Giants
  • Kolkata Knight Riders
  • Royal Challengers Bangalore
  • Delhi Capitals
  • Punjab Kings

The five-time champions Mumbai Indians have the best batting line-up with players like Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Tim David being certain in their playing XI. They also have good overseas options like Mohammad Nabi and Dewald Brevis. Jasprit Bumrah who missed out on playing 2023 IPL was retained in the MI squad and will be joined by champion overseas bowlers like Jason Behrendorff and Gerald Coetzee.

The defending champions, CSK bought very good buys in the IPL auction for the future like Rachin Ravindra, Sameer Rizvi and apart from them, they bought Daryl Mitchell also for a price of around INR 14 Crore. All these three players have the ability to reprise the role of what Rayudu did in IPL 2023. Hence, they too look a very strong side with fire in both batting and bowling departments.

The 2022 IPL champions despite trading Hardik Pandya have got players like Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill at the top and also have got a huge six hitter like Shahrukh Khan from the auctions apart from having players like David Miller, Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan. Their pace bowling unit has a strong Indian line-up with names like Shami, Umesh Yadav and Mohit Sharma along with mystery spin of Rashid Khan.

Rajasthan Royals had a best team even before auction as they have players like Jaiswal, Buttler, Samson at top and players like Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag as finishers. The side also boasts of a bowling strength including the likes of Ashwin, Boult, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan and Chahal. Hence, they lacked only solid middle-order batters which also got filled by picking a player like Rovman Powell.

As per team strength definitely Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals have a good chance to qualify for the playoffs ahead of all other teams. Any team among these four sides could be a good team in contention to win the IPL title.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will have a big headache on who will be their first-choice overseas players in the playing XI as they have a total of seven options who could start in the team easily. Hence, that will be a big disadvantage for them.

Lucknow Super Giants had very less role to do on the IPL 2024 auction table as they bought only bowlers who were needed for the side after trading Devdutt Padikkal as an option for middle or top-order batsman.

Kolkata Knight Riders invested a lot in Mitchell Starc and by doing so they lost an opportunity to get correct team balance ahead of IPL 2024 auctions.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have a weak bowling attack and once again the team will heavily rely on their top three players like Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Maxwell.

Delhi Capitals middle-order looks very bleak as they don't have proven players to bat in that position. Moreover, skipper Rishabh Pant will be seen playing for first time after December 2022. Delhi bowling also has been heavily dependent on bowlers like Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar.

Punjab Kings had a worst auction as they didn't get any desired players needed for their franchise seeing the IPL 2024 season.
