With the second Test of the highly-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 underway at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, the host nation players were seen donning black armbands on their shirt sleeves. The gesture by the Aussies for the pink-ball Test in Adelaide comes to honour late cricketer Phillip Hughes.

Notably, the side is marking the 10-year death anniversay of cricketer Phillip Hughes, who passed away during a Sheffield Shield match after getting struck on the head. Although the former cricketer passed away on November 27, 2014, Cricket Australia (CA) opted to commemorate his passing away with the team wearing black armbands during the day-night Test against India in Adelaide.
Furthermore, a documentary on the life of former Aussie opener was also displayed at the stadium before the start of the play with flags flowing at half-mast. “We understand this will be a time of reflection for the many people who knew and admired Phillip Hughes. We wanted to ensure that Hughes family, particularly, were comfortable with any commemorations and that we celebrate Phillip’s life and incredible achievements appropriately,” CA Head Nick Hockley had stated.
